Nonverbal Communication can be defined as any form of communication that doesn’t use spoken words. This is incredibly important for an Interpreter, and is second only to understanding at least 2 languages.
Being fluent in 2 languages is the basic requirement for an Interpreter, of course, but being able to read nonverbal communication as well, takes an Interpreter to a higher level of capability, resulting in being booked time and time again - more work, more sophisticated work, and better-paid work.
This Masterclass looks at what we do, why we do it, and how we can harness it to become superb Interpreters.
Body language, including facial expressions and movements, eyes and eye contact, hand and arm movement and gestures, our physicality and body movements, the way we position ourselves and our posture, tone of voice and sounds, and habitus, all form our nonverbal personality which is expressed to others whether we like it or not!
