DPSI exam-day checklist

Sitting your DPSI exam soon? The exam is taken online, so on the day you’ll need your ID, your room and your equipment to be ready, as well as yourself. Go through this list before your first unit.

Before your exam

  • Check the equipment and system requirements on the CIOL DPSI page

  • Check your exam times

  • Look at the Unit 01 role play topics once CIOL Qualifications publishes them

  • For Units 04 and 05, get your paper dictionaries, glossaries and word bank together

On your desk

  • Photo ID with your signature (passport, national ID card or full driving licence)

  • Your candidate number

  • Your reasonable adjustment letter, if you have one

  • Water in a clear bottle, labels taken off

  • A watch (not a smart watch) or a clock on the wall

In your room

  • Nobody else in the room

  • Nothing on the walls or desk that could help you

  • Phone out of reach and switched off (airplane mode isn’t enough)

  • Be ready to show the Invigilator the whole room on camera

During the exam

  • Only speak to the Interlocutor, Invigilator or Assessor

  • Ask before you leave the room. In the written units, comfort breaks come out of your exam time

  • If a technical problem isn’t fixed within 15 minutes, the session can be cancelled

What you can use

  • Unit 01 (consecutive and simultaneous interpreting): nothing specified

  • Units 02 and 03 (sight translation into and from English): nothing specified

  • Units 04 and 05 (written translation into and from English): paper dictionaries, glossaries and your own word bank. Nothing electronic

After the exam

If you’re ill or something goes wrong on the day, you can apply to CIOL Qualifications for special consideration. The deadlines and the results date for each session are on the CIOL DPSI page. Each unit is marked separately, so you only resit what you need to.

Good luck from all of us at linguisttraining.com!
