linguisttraining.com Student Wins Prestigious CIOL DipTrans Fred Brandeis Trophy
The Fred Brandeis Trophy is a prestigious award presented by the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), the UK's Royal Chartered professional body for translators and language professionals. Awarded in memory of Mr Fred Brandeis, a long-standing Fellow and friend of the Institute, the trophy was presented annually between 2010 and 2020 by the CIOL Translating Division for the best candidate in German in the Diploma in Translation (DipTrans).
The Fred Brandeis Trophy celebrates individual excellence. It was presented to the single candidate who demonstrated the highest standard of performance in the German language combination in the DipTrans, making it a true mark of personal achievement at the highest level of translation qualification in the UK.
The DipTrans itself is a Level 7 qualification, widely regarded as the gold standard for professional translators. It is a rigorous and demanding exam that tests not only linguistic accuracy but the ability to handle complex, specialist texts across a range of subject areas. To win the Fred Brandeis Trophy, a candidate had to outperform all other German-language DipTrans candidates nationally in that year, a remarkable achievement by any measure.
We are proud that one of our DipTrans students, Cornelia Oetting, was awarded the Fred Brandeis Trophy in 2018, in recognition of her outstanding performance as the best English to German candidate that year. Her success is a testament to her dedication and talent, and reflects the quality of the preparation and support that our DipTrans course provides.
If you are considering studying for the DipTrans, you would be joining a course whose students have competed and won at the very highest level. Find out more about our DipTrans programme and take the next step in your translation career.
