Community interpreting is one of the most meaningful things a bilingual person can do. You're the person in the room helping someone navigate a system (whether that's a healthcare appointment, a school meeting, or a local authority consultation), who might otherwise be completely lost without you. The Certificate in Community Interpreting (CCI) is the qualification that takes you from "I can do this informally" to "I am officially qualified to do this professionally."
The CCI is a Level 3 Ofqual-accredited qualification, which means it's nationally recognised and sits on the same regulated qualifications framework as other professional certificates in the UK. Unlike most other courses on offer, the CCI is unique in that the qualification itself is included within the course - you don't need to sit a separate external exam. Complete the course and its assessment, and you achieve the actual qualification.
It's aimed at people who are new to community interpreting, or who have been doing it informally and want a recognised credential. The course covers the key skills and knowledge needed for interpreting in community settings: consecutive interpreting techniques, the role and responsibilities of a community Interpreter, professional ethics, terminology building, and how to handle the variety of situations you'll encounter in real assignments.
There's strong demand for qualified community Interpreters across the UK, and having a recognised qualification genuinely makes a difference - both in terms of the opportunities available to you and the fees you can command. Agencies and public sector organisations increasingly ask for evidence of training. A Level 3 CCI certificate gives you exactly that.

Many students who complete it go on to study for the DPSI (Level 6), which opens the door to legal and healthcare interpreting at the highest professional level.
