The DPSI Qualification

The DPSI represents professional level skills in public service interpreting. It is a first-degree level qualification (NQF Level 6) in terms of language skills required for those interpreting in the UK in a Public Service context.

The DPSI is approximately the same as degree level, therefore excellent command of English and the Other Language is required.  However the decision as to whether you think you are at the required level to carry out this course, must be yours.

The DPSI qualification offers a range of benefits:

Relevance
Provides a nationally consistent standard of professionalism for those who wish to progress into careers as interpreters using English in a Public Service context.

Potential
Facilitates entry to business and service industries and Masters level courses and entitles holders to apply for membership of the CIoL.

Flexibility
The examination is available in more than 40 languages. Click here to view languages.

Accreditation
Accredited by Ofqual: Entered into the National Qualifications Framework at Level 6 (first degree level).

Recognition
The Diploma in Public Service Interpreting is recognised by the Open University; credit is awarded in the form of 30 points at level 1 with BA designation.

Exam Components
The examination is split into 5 units for each pathway:

  • Unit 01 (Level 6): Interpret consecutively and simultaneously (whispered) in the public services
  • Unit 02 (Level 6): Provide a sight translation into English in the public services
  • Unit 03 (Level 6): Provide a sight translation from English in the public services

I would like to thank all the linguisttraining.com team for your work. I have received the results of the DPSI exam in the post yesterday and I was very pleased - 3 Merits, 1 Pass and 1 Distinction. I have studied hard, of course, but I had all the necessary materials provided (very well written and structured). Your help and advice during the whole process of learning and, of course, my Language Partner was very professional, knowledgeable and supportive.
